[ Context ] — Why Artemex exists

The infrastructure most artists never had access to.

The art world celebrates a narrow circle of creators. Research mapping global artist trajectories shows how concentrated that circle is: less than 5% of artists receive the majority of visibility, representation, and long-term career momentum, and fewer than 1% ever enter the top tiers of galleries, institutions, or markets. Their paths are shaped by geography, networks, early access to elite institutions, and the compounding effect of being seen by the right people at the right time.

For everyone else — emerging artists, those who are self-taught, those outside major cultural centres, or artists from the global majority — the challenge isn't talent. It's permeability: the ability to enter the system, be seen, and build momentum.

Artemex exists to widen that doorway. We support the 90%: artists who build their practice outside elite institutions and traditional pipelines, often without access to the networks, resources, and structural support that shape the careers of the top 1%.

We're not here to replace agents or curators. We're building the missing layer — practical tools, operational support, and visibility pathways that help artists circulate professionally and sustainably. Our intelligent tools handle the work that typically slows artists down: pricing guidance, portfolio structuring, material preparation, communication, and maintaining visibility. Designed to make the path more navigable, and your practice more sustainable.

What we look for
  • 01 A consistent body of work with a recognisable direction.
  • 02 A clear artistic voice — distinct, considered, and evolving.
  • 03 Readiness for professional placements — work that can be safely handled, installed, and presented within a professional environment.
  • 04 Suitability for the spaces we work in — not every work is right for every space, and that's part of maintaining thoughtful, context-aware placements.
  • 05 Artists with our shared values — structure, community, and a long-term approach to building their practice.
[ FAQ ] — Artist questions, answered

Common questions

Everything you need to know about joining Artemex as an artist.

There is no fee to join Artemex — no membership fee, listing fee, or submission fee. Artists never pay to participate. Our revenue comes from the business side through art leasing and services. For sales, we take a commission — but only when a sale happens. This covers curation, placement, client management, and the infrastructure that makes the sale possible. You never pay upfront, and you never pay if no sale occurs. Our commission structure is designed to be fair, transparent, and aligned with your success — we only earn when you do. For placements, a meaningful portion of every leasing fee goes directly to you; part of a broader commitment. Our mission.

We're developing intelligent tools to support artists with admin, portfolio preparation, and workflow. Because they require ongoing development and infrastructure, some carry a subscription, but they remain optional and will never affect your ability to participate in Artemex or earn from placements and sales.

Yes. You retain full ownership of your work unless a piece is sold with your agreement. Placement is a lease arrangement — the work is with a client for a defined period, then returned or rotated. Ownership never transfers without your agreement.

Income is generated through placements — businesses pay a leasing fee, and a meaningful portion goes directly to you. Terms are clearly outlined during onboarding and before any placement is confirmed. You'll always know what you're earning and why.

We facilitate the sale directly with you. Artemex manages the client relationship, handles pricing guidance and provenance documentation, and takes a commission on the sale. Nothing is agreed without your approval.

Artemex arranges insurance coverage for all works placed through our network. Every placement includes professional handling and installation. Full details of our insurance arrangements are shared with you before any placement is confirmed.

Rotation depends on the client's programme — typically every 6 or 12 months, with more frequent rotations available on higher tiers. Timelines are agreed with you in advance so your work is never in limbo. Between placements, works are returned to you while the next opportunity is arranged.

That's exactly the kind of momentum Artemex is here to support. When you go on to work with a gallery, agent, or institution, we celebrate it — and you're still welcome in the community. We're developing a mentoring programme that invites more established artists to share guidance with those earlier in their journey — because individual success strengthens the wider ecosystem.

[ Founding Cohort ] — The first gestures of Artemex

An invitation to the platform's opening composition.

The founding cohort is a small, intentional group of artists whose practice and direction will help shape Artemex from the inside. This is not an open call. It's an invitation to join something at its earliest gestures.

  • A curated opportunities board

All Artemex artists have access to our regularly updated board of grants, residencies, open calls, and commissions. Every listing is researched, verified, and relevant — published for all members, at no cost, always.

  • Free access to Iris — permanently

Iris, our intelligent opportunity finder, is free for all founding cohort artists — permanently. As the platform grows, Iris will become a premium feature for new members. Your access is locked in.

  • Early access to Sage

Sage, our studio advisor, will launch in beta — and founding cohort artists are the first to access it. You'll be among the first to use it — and among the first to shape how it grows.

  • Your voice shapes the platform

Founding artists share direct feedback on what's working and what needs refinement. Your perspective influences how Artemex evolves — from placement criteria to community features.

  • Founding member recognition

Your profile carries founding member status — a permanent marker of being part of the foundation Artemex is built on.
